What We Found on SF MUNI Bus Shelters
In January 2007, the Marin Institute surveyed three San Francisco districts for alcohol advertisements on MUNI transit shelters within 500 feet of any public school or accredited college. Upon finding at least 15 violations, we held a press conference that resulted in the removal of the offending ads. In addition, MUNI has pledged to not allow any alcohol ads in their future contract. (The current contract expires at the end of 2007.)

" CBS Outdoor is doing the alcohol industry’s dirty work by pushing alcohol to San Francisco youth,” said Bruce Livingston, executive director of Marin Institute. “In one afternoon, we found 15 abusive ads in less than a third of the city. CBS Outdoor is grossly violating MUNI’s system wide policy as well as a contract amendment they signed just two months ago. Tens of thousands of youth are exposed to these ads, which could lead to excessive teenage drinking.”
