ALCOHOL RELATED STATISTICS: ADULT

Current Alcohol Use
According to the Marin County Health Survey (2001), 78% of Marin adults 18 years of age and older reported drinking alcohol in the past 30 days-with men (79.3%) having slightly higher rates than women (75.6%).

According to the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse (1999), 52.5% of California adults 18-25, and 51% of California adults 26 and over, reported using alcohol in the past 30 days.

According to the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse (2001), 67.5% of adults 21 years of age and older in the United States reported drinking alcohol in the past 30 days.

Binge Drinking
Seventeen percent of Marin adult survey respondents reported binge drinking (five or more drinks on the same occasion) in the past month. Of those that drink alcohol, 23% reported binge drinking in the past month.

Forty percent of 18-24 year olds reported binge drinking in the past month.
