In 1997, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill organized Fall Fest, an alcohol-free street festival as an alternative to drinking parties. The event included carnival games, band and a capella performances, massages, and dancing. UNC-CH found that this alternative was successful at reducing the number of alcohol-related incidents on- and off-campus, and in reducing the number of students attending drinking parties¹.
