Marin, Bay Area Leaders Honored for Alcohol Prevention Work Youth and Adults Recognized with First Annual Community Prevention Leadership Awards

San Rafael, CA - Four San Francisco Bay Area leaders in the fight against community alcohol problems have been chosen by the Marin Institute to receive Community Prevention Leadership Awards for their efforts. The awards are designed to highlight the often unsung heroes who dedicate themselves to working for healthier and safer neighborhoods by addressing the factors that shape community alcohol problems: community norms, access and availability, media messages, and policy and enforcement.

This year's awardees include:

Ed Kikumoto , Alcohol Policy Network, is recognized for his tireless efforts helping residents of Berkeley and Oakland deal with problem alcohol outlets in their neighborhoods. (Award: Bay Area Adult Leader)

Renee Sayles , Marin Youth Health Advisory Council and Breaking the Link, is recognized for her work assessing underage access to alcohol and drugs in Marin County and the messages young people receive about alcohol and other drugs. (Award: Marin Youth Leader)

Wendy Todd , Youth Leadership Institute, is recognized for her role as an adult ally to young people committed to preventing alcohol-related problem in Marin County. (Award: Bay Area Youth Ally)

Susan Adams , Marin County Board of Supervisors, is recognized for her unwavering responsiveness to community concerns about alcohol problems. (Award: Marin Adult Leader)

Members of the Marin Institue Board of Directors will present the awards during the Institute's annual public meeting on Friday, June 17, 2005 at 3:30 - 5:30 PM at the offices of the Marin Institute, 24 Belvedere Street, San Rafael, CA. A reception and refreshments will follow presentation of the awards.


The Marin Institute is an alcohol industry watchdog and a resource for solutions to community alcohol problems.
